Apple’s Intel product line dropped today, fulfilling the prophecies spun by Mac rumor mongers all over the internet. Intel’s Core Duo processors promise to boost performance by 2 to 4 times, if you believe the industrial-strength hype machine that powers Apple marketing. I’m pretty psyched about the performance gains, even if they’re not as substantial as Apple promises.

Bringing Mac hardware into the high-performance arena is going to be a titanic step forward for OSX. We all know that even on a G5, OSX is a little more sluggish than we’d like. It’s time to throw off the shackles of an obsolete processor line, to provide our favorite operating system an environment in which it can flourish.

It’s time to resize Safari windows smoothly.

So what do you guys think? To me this is a sign that the Mac is ramping up to grab more market share than ever. It’ll be a long time until we see 11%, but Intel Macs should level the playing field a fair bit!
