Wheels of USB

We love the web.

vinyl-to-usbI was just browsing around Alpharat’s great blog Kit Burns was framed! and came across his post on the iTTUSB. Like Alpharat, I have a crate of vinyl collecting dust in the basement that is in desperate need of digital liberation. I had considered ways of making this happen in the past but all were too expensive, or too much work. “A record player with a USB connection is what I need!” I thought on many an occasion. A week or so and a few albums in, I have to say that I am loving the thing! It’s easy to use, and a lot of fun if you’re a music geek.

I feel like I am reconnecting with some old friends, albums like “Flaunt it” by Sigue Sigue Sputnik and “We’re the Meatmen… and you suck!” are now making it onto my iPod.

I have a more detailed review of my first experiences with the ITTUSB on my other site, if anyone is so inclined.

The generation gap revealed!

Not to be judgemental, but I’m serious when I say I’ve never owned a record in my life.

That being said, my dad was doing this sort of work a long time ago, with a nice sound card and his trusty 70s era turntable. His main problem is that at the time good audio cleaning software was still really expensive, you obviously have to do something to clean up all the hiss and pops. Glad to see that this product covers that.

Well to be honest, other than the collection of 7″s I have from my punk phase, most of the vinyl I own was inherited from my grandparents and a few were nicked from my dad’s collection. I can’t wait to be rockin’ Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass on my new iPod!
