37 Signals

Last week Apple posted an interesting interview with Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson: the minds behind 37 Signals. This is one of the companies that’s leading the charge towards distributed online applications, so it’s nice to get a feel for their philosophy and ethics.

Granted you’ll have to get through quite a bit of heavy handed Apple propaganda, but there are some good quotes in there, like “it’s not the low end of the market, it’s the smart end of the market“. Along with Google, 37 Signals is showing the world that the best solution for productivity isn’t necessarily the next iteration of Microsoft office: it’s often a lightweight webapp that fills one roll, and fills it well.

I saw that video last week, and it’s very inspiring. I love the thinking behind those guys, and I try to keep up with everything they are doing.

I would also highly recommend their book Getting Real which further explains their approach to their business.

Those guys seem to be doing everything right.

I really like Docs & Spreadsheets though I haven’t seen them implement Safari support for the new combination as yet. Anyone see the Adult Swim bump that gave Docs & Spreadsheets props? It was great…

missed that plug on adult swim. ive started using it with my firefox browser, and it seems to work..OK…id like to see some more developments in the future. for example, i imported my resume, and it had problems dealing with the headers and columns. thats annoying. Also, the collaborate function seems to be on the right track, but needs a little bit more work. Being able to see page breaks, and more adaptable numbering and bullet points would also be helpful. G-TEAM to you hear me….send in Hannibale and Face, im sure they can straighten it out
