Pownce: Send Stuff to Your Friends

Pownce

Looks like the newest webapp from Digg founder Kevin Rose debuted today: the web has just gotten word that his new application is called “Pownce“, and will allow users to send files and information to their friends quickly and easily. Here’s the official line:

Credit Where Credit Is Due

The new Wordpress 2.0 logo

I probably don’t say it enough around here, but I really adore the Wordpress publishing platform. Not only has it provided an exceptional sandbox in which I can practice my craft, but it’s created a hospitable environment that’s encouraged me to endlessly refine my writing skills. So I was really happy to see that Wordpress was recently awarded a slot in the top 100 products of 2007 by Webware, a service that tracks what they call “cool web apps for everyone.”

It’s a reward well due, my shoutout to Matt and the crew for their achievement!

Movable Type Goes Open Source

Movable Type

Looks like one of the heavy hitters of the blog platform world has finally jumped on the open source train: Movable Type announced MTOS: the Movable Type Open Source project on June 5th.

While I’m still a WordPress man at heart, there are a great number of high profile web developer personalities out there that still rely on Movable Type, so it must be doing something right! I’m sure they’ll be glad to have a more open, and of course more affordable version of their blogging platform of choice on hand.
