I probably don’t say it enough around here, but I really adore the Wordpress publishing platform. Not only has it provided an exceptional sandbox in which I can practice my craft, but it’s created a hospitable environment that’s encouraged me to endlessly refine my writing skills. So I was really happy to see that Wordpress was recently awarded a slot in the top 100 products of 2007 by Webware, a service that tracks what they call “cool web apps for everyone.”
It’s a reward well due, my shoutout to Matt and the crew for their achievement!

Having co-built a pretty awesome platform (if I do say so myself), I’m a bit prejudiced, but WordPress really is cool. It definitely had a lot to do with the blogging explosion, and is one of the better open source things out there. Got to trade compliments with Matt Mullenwag at SXSW this year, which was pretty neat.
I was dissapointed that I missed sxsw this year, I’m making a point to get there next year. Interesting getting a perspective on wordpress from someone that’s involved with another platform though: I usually see wordpress more as a personal publishing platform, while something like blogsmith occupies a space that serves larger scale blogs that get their funding through advertising.
