Tales of a Redesign [Part 2]

We love the web.

The Radar Bros

Let there be… the phatest of beats! The memories of most sites I’ve developed have been flavored by the music I listened to as they were built. The soundtrack for the fifth version of Crashpod was especially robust, as it was marked by new releases from several of my favorite bands. It’s hard to overestimate the importance music plays to me in developing pet projects like Crashpod: web development is what I do 40 hours a week at work, so it’s all too easy to use that excuse to put off working on my own personal webspace.

Queueing up a new album by a favorite artist really affords me a kick in the pants, making the fact that I’m at home doing exactly what I was half an hour ago at work much less noticeable. But what bands saw the Crashpod through the twilight of its development? Read on dear mam/sir/googlebot, read on, and learn!

The Decemberists
I don’t really even know how to explain this band. Port-town medieval hero bards? Pirates of the rhythm seas? Aquaswingers? While the Decemberists defy description, they’re most inviting to the ear. I had the good grace to start listening to them in one of the best scenarios possible: Justin gave me 3 full albums for free, so it was a briny Decemberists binge from day one!

The Bravery
The Bravery are a great mix between a mainstream indie-pop flavor and a more lighthearted experimental vibe. Their recent album “The Sun and the Moon” comes highly recommended. Also their home page has “www6″ in the URL. That’s fully 3 W’s more than other cheap ass bands!

The Radar Bros
Great laid back sound that’s a perfect antithesis of pop bands like The Bravery. Enjoy the Radar Brothers with a glass of red wine.

Arcade Fire
Their latest album is very much an essay on modern religion that tries to express the shortcomings of commercialized beliefs which… oh who cares THEIR SONGS HAVE PIPE ORGANS! Neon Bible is an exceptional album that has a unique sound unheard before.

The White Stripes
Icky Thump, the newest White Stripes album features this line: “I’m a martyr for my love for you.” (See here)

have you checked out the k2 theme for wordpress? I just added it to the www.division-g.com site, really like the integrated ajax. I see you use a search feature and of course commenting. Maybe check it out? Because reloading a page is soooo 2005.
