Leave it to hacker community to introduce an entirely new interface convention to a closed consumer device that’s only a month old. A member over at cre.ations.net has done just that, by introducing a really impressive navigation scheme for the iPhone that looks like a blend of the OSX dock and the new “stacks” that will be coming with OS 10.5. As impressive an accomplishment as this is, it’s really only made necessary by the addition of other hacked applications and functionality adding to the total number of home-screen icons for the iPhone. What will be really interesting is over the devices life, how Apple will approach this problem if they start introducing their own additional applications, and if it will turn out similar to this hacked approach.

looking forward to the 5th to see what (if any) approved third party support goes live. Then maybe we start hacking….have you tried anything? Ringtones, wallpapers, just anything at all?
Yeah, my plan was to wait until Jobs introduced new items, hoping that the iPhone has at least some mention of future software updates. If we don’t get any news on the phone, I think I will give it a go at hacking the phone.
Haven’t tried anything yet, i’m too much of a chicken to risk possibly endangering my $600 device that Apple has seen fit to drop to $400 just 2 months after it came out. Thanks a lot Apple!
Hooray for the $100 rebate. Surely makes the new nano or 160gb classic very tempting. $250 bucks for 160gb ipod, or $50 bucks for a nano, not bad. I downloaded ibrickr yesterday in a rage after i was told I was going to pay $2 for a ringtone for a song I already own…pff. I have yet to try it though. I would like to wait until after I update the iphone with the itunes store, then let the hacking begin!
I just got the discontinued 4gb (price was finally right and if you’re gonna be on cingular anyway, might as well have the best phone) … I have no desire to void the warranty and run the risk of bricking the thing yet. Maybe I’ll give it a year and see how I feel.
there are a couple non-voiding techniques you can do. Most are just for ringtones though. You must embrace your device, hack it, and then laugh at the pleasure brought to you from it.
Yeah, the Jphill man was showing me the process to add ringtones earlier today: seems pretty easy!
